Institute for Health and Development

About us

Health and development are foundational for the well-being of individuals and societies. They are based on dynamic processes in which psychological, biological and social factors interact in a complex interplay across the entire lifespan. Traditionally, there has been a focus on promoting physical health. Currently, however, the development and promotion of mental health is considered the greatest challenge for the healthcare system in industrialised countries. The Institute was founded in 2015 to research health and development using a broad range of methods, from basic principles to applications, and to contribute to health promotion. The Institute is part of the Faculty of Psychology at Ruhr University Bochum.

Spokesperson of the institute is Prof. Dr. Mar Rus-Calafell.
